What is Art Therapy?
“The arts therapies are a form of psychotherapy utilising creative modalities, including visual art-making, drama, and dance/movement, within a therapeutic relationship to improve and inform physical, mental and emotional well-being" (ANZACATA).
Who is it helpful for?
Art therapy helps children, adolescents, and adults explore their emotions, improve self-esteem, manage addictions, relieve stress, improve symptoms of anxiety and depression, and cope with a physical illness or disability.
Do I need artistic ability?
Art Therapy does not require any artistic skill or experience. In therapy, we use art as a process to affect change and growth. There are no judgements about the artistic quality of the work, and there is no “right” or “wrong” way to make art in Art Therapy.
Who can access Art Therapy?
Anybody interested in Art Therapy can attend. For clients who have funding under NDIS or Victims of Crimes Act you may be eligible to access these services for free (utilising the funding under your service provider plan). If you are unsure whether you are eligible please feel free to contact me directly for further details.
